On September 19th, at the 2024 Yunqi Conference, He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO of Xiaopeng Motors, stated that the development of autonomous driving can be traced back to 1925. Toyota, Google, Baidu, and Xiaopeng joined the development of autonomous driving in 1999, 2009, 2014, and 2017, respectively. However, as of now, autonomous driving has not yet achieved large-scale development. As for the combination of big models and autonomous driving, He Xiaopeng stated that big models can be divided into three categories: digital world, physical world, and simulation world, and foresaw the trend of these models being integrated in the future. However, He Xiaopeng also stated that from a hardware perspective, the speed of this integration process will be relatively slow. Compared to the rapid changes in the digital world, the pace of change in the physical world will be more steady.
In He Xiaopeng's view, although autonomous driving technology has been able to achieve a certain degree of autonomous driving on highways and urban roads in the past two years. But these systems still rely on pre-set rules, making it difficult to cope with all complex real-world scenarios. He stated that the introduction of end-to-end technology will greatly enhance the performance upper limit of autonomous driving while ensuring its safety lower limit. He predicted that in the next 36 months, the application of end-to-end big models in autonomous driving could enable everyone to drive like an experienced driver in every city.
