On Monday local time, Apple released its latest smartphone series and other next-generation products, but they were widely seen as lacking in novelty, and Tesla CEO Elon Musk once again mocked them.
A user on Musk's social media platform X commented on the iPhone 16, saying that it is basically the same phone, just with two new buttons and a new color added. Musk responded sarcastically, "The R&D cost is only $50 billion, it's really a great deal
In another post, a user posted an emoji based on the famous scene of "Spider Man pointing at Spider Man", mocking that there isn't much difference between different models of iPhones.
Musk commented, "It's hard to tell the difference without careful observation
This is not the first time Musk has mocked the disproportionate relationship between Apple's huge R&D expenditures and achievements.
In January of this year, Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt pointed out that Tesla's R&D expenditure last year was less than $4 billion, while Apple and Microsoft invested $29.92 billion and $27.2 billion, respectively.
Musk responded at the time by saying, "There are significant differences in the effectiveness of research and development expenditures between companies
Last September, after Apple released the iPhone 15 model, Musk responded to a post from another X user who posted a screenshot showing that Apple's research and development spending in 2022 reached $26.25 billion, and the iPhone 15 was 1 gram lighter than the 14, which seemed to be the only difference between the two.
Musk responded at the time, "The cost-effectiveness doesn't seem high
