On August 28th, according to China Fund News citing Bloomberg, Apple announced about 100 layoffs in its service division.
On Tuesday local time, Apple notified the affected employees who were working in several different teams within the service department of Senior Vice President Eddy Cue. This layoff includes some engineering positions, with the most affected being the team responsible for the Apple Books book application and Apple Bookstore. At the same time, other service teams are also laying off employees, including the team that operates Apple News.
According to reports, Apple Books is no longer a top priority for the company and is no longer seen as an important component of its service lineup. According to insiders, the Apple Books app is still expected to gain new features over time, but the layoffs of Apple News do not mean that it is "no longer valued".
