On August 22nd, CCTV Finance reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States announced on Wednesday that Tesla will recall over 9000 Model X electric vehicles in the United States because a decoration on the roof of these vehicles may come off, increasing the risk of accidents. And this is also a very rare physical recall for Tesla, which previously mainly solved car problems through wireless software updates.
According to Bizzycar, the developer of the recall management platform, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million vehicles in the United States in the first half of this year due to safety issues, second only to Ford Motor Company.
Last month, 1.85 million vehicles were recalled in the United States
On July 30th, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States, Tesla launched a large-scale recall, which involves Model 3, Model S, Model X from 2021 to 2024 and Model Y from 2020 to 2024, totaling 1.8496 million vehicles.
The reason for Tesla's large-scale recall this time is that the software may not be able to detect the engine hood being unlocked, and the unlocked engine hood may be completely opened, obstructing the driver's line of sight and increasing the risk of collision. This recall will be completed through remote upgrade (OTA).
This is Tesla's largest recall since December last year. At that time, Tesla recalled 2.03 million vehicles in the United States, almost covering all Tesla cars on American roads at that time, because the autonomous driving control systems of these vehicles were insufficient to prevent misoperation.
Tesla recalls over 1.6 million vehicles domestically!
According to the State Administration for Market Regulation on the evening of August 6th, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. have recently filed recall plans with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the requirements of the "Regulations on the Management of Defective Automotive Product Recalls" and the "Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Management of Defective Automotive Product Recalls"
Starting from today, a total of 1683627 imported Model S, Model X, and domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles with production dates between October 15, 2020 and July 17, 2024 will be recalled.
Some vehicles within the scope of this recall may not be detected by the front trunk latch assembly system when the front trunk lid is unlocked, and the vehicle may not be able to issue a "front trunk not locked" prompt. In extreme cases, this may cause the front trunk lid to open while driving, affecting the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of collision, posing a safety hazard.
Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will provide free software upgrades for vehicles within the recall scope through remote over the air (OTA) technology. The upgraded vehicles will be able to recognize the fault status of the front trunk latch and emit a text and beep prompt of "front trunk not locked". At the same time, free repairs will be provided to vehicles that have been found to have faults with the front trunk latch during testing to eliminate safety hazards. For vehicles that cannot be upgraded through OTA technology, relevant users will be contacted through Tesla service centers to implement recalls.
