On August 16th local time, the main union of BHP's Escondida copper mine in Chile agreed to the management's proposed higher wage conditions and suspended the strike. BHP stated that the two parties reached an agreement after resuming negotiations. Sources from the company and union stated that BHP provided workers with approximately $32000 in bonuses and an additional $2000 in soft loans. (Reuters)
