General Motors is changing the performance evaluation method for its salaried employees in the United States to better reward high performing employees and put pressure on low performing employees. An internal memo shows that the company is currently offering a 150% bonus to its top 5% employees, higher than the previous system, in order to better attract and retain the talent needed to help it achieve its goals in the fierce process of electric vehicle transformation. The new performance ranking system adopts a five level system to evaluate employees, ranging from 'significantly exceeding expectations' to' not meeting expectations'. Employee bonuses are linked to rankings. The company has approximately 53000 salaried employees in the United States. (Reuters)
