On July 10th, Microsoft wrote a letter to OpenAI stating that it would abandon its observer seat on the latter's board of directors. Microsoft stated that "we have seen significant progress on the new board of directors in the past 8 months and are confident in the direction of OpenAI's development, believing that it is no longer necessary to retain this seat.".
OpenAI stated in a statement, "We appreciate Microsoft's confidence in the OpenAI board of directors and the company's development direction, and we look forward to continuing our successful cooperation."
