On Tuesday (July 2nd) local time, a New York judge postponed the ruling in the case of former US President Trump's "sealing fee" to September 18th.
In May of this year, Trump was found guilty by a jury in a New York court in the "sealing fee" case, and all 34 felony charges were upheld, making him the first former president in US history to be convicted.
The verdict date for this case was originally scheduled for July 11th, and the Republican National Convention will be held on July 24th, when Trump will be officially nominated as the presidential candidate.
Just one day before the judgment on the "sealing fee" case was postponed, the US Supreme Court ruled that Trump enjoyed a certain degree of immunity for his actions during his presidency.
Specifically, Trump enjoys immunity from prosecution for "public acts", while he does not enjoy immunity from prosecution for "private acts". The Supreme Court of the United States has instructed lower courts to determine which actions are "public acts" that cannot be prosecuted.
After the Supreme Court of the United States ruled on presidential immunity, Trump's defense lawyer immediately wrote to presiding judge Juan Melchan in the "Sealing Fees" case, stating that the jury's previous guilty verdict should be overturned. The prosecution of the case stated that they are willing to postpone the verdict on the "sealing fee" case.
The "Sealing Fee" case is just the first of four criminal charges against Trump, and he is also facing criminal charges in the Georgia Election Plan, Florida Papers Case, and Federal Election Plan. The ruling of the US Supreme Court may have varying degrees of impact on all four cases.
US President Biden warned on Monday that the Supreme Court ruling has set a dangerous precedent, meaning that presidential power will not be constrained.
Biden called on the American people to replace the Supreme Court in making a ruling on Trump's term by participating in the November presidential election vote to prevent Trump from winning.
