Given that investors' enthusiasm for artificial intelligence (AI) remains high, a senior executive at JPMorgan Chase has stated that companies that use AI to change their business may become the next beneficiaries.
Caroline Ptsch Hennig, head of private banking at Xiaomo Germany, said that investors only focus on chip manufacturers or cloud computing providers who are pushing for the creation of new artificial intelligence models, which is "not the right approach". On the contrary, investors should also pay attention to the "adopters" of new technologies.
In recent months, with the increasing enthusiasm of investors for artificial intelligence technology, some of the "most obvious" beneficiaries have seen their stock prices soar. Among them, NVIDIA, the leading AI company, surpassed Apple's market value on Wednesday, reaching over $3 trillion. And server manufacturer Microelectronics is the best performing company in the S&P 500 index so far this year.
However, more and more investors are now looking for other ways to bet on the potential of artificial intelligence. For example, JPMorgan Chase has previously stated that some trading clients are flooding into the commodity market, and it is expected that the infrastructure required for this technology will boost demand for energy and equipment.
Just like the emergence of early steam engines, inventors and manufacturers are not the only beneficiaries of technology. Factories, railway and ship operators use steam technology to provide power for their own businesses and machines. The same was true of electricity, telephones, computers and the Internet. The return on each innovation will ultimately flow from creators and promoters of commercialization to technology users.
In the era of AI, it is evident that the "drivers" are companies that focus on building software models (including OpenAI and Alphabet), as well as designers and manufacturers of data center hardware (such as Nvidia, AMD, AMD, TSMC), and cloud computing giants such as Amazon, Oracle, and Microsoft that operate infrastructure. The success of these "promoters" is already evident to all.
The fate of the promoter is closely related to the user, who is the former's customer. Therefore, Wall Street expects that the benefits brought by AI will eventually turn to the users. At the end of last year, a survey conducted by Morgan Stanley on the Chief Investment Officer found that most people expected to launch their first artificial intelligence project in the second half of 2024.
Mirjam Staub Bisang, head of business at BlackRock Switzerland, said, "You need to focus on companies that have (healthy) balance sheets and cash to fund technological innovation. By making such investments today, you can earn returns in the coming years."
Edward Stanley, the head of research at Damo Europe, previously stated that the company's stock price will not change overnight, but more and more users who can demonstrate the progress of artificial intelligence plans will gain recognition from investors with higher P/E ratios.
"Artificial intelligence is benefiting companies at different speeds," said Patrick Kelly, portfolio manager at growth investment firm Alger. "Some companies have already benefited greatly, while others aim to achieve growth in the coming years."
