On June 3rd, it was reported that Amazon is in talks with South African regulatory authorities to obtain approval to begin providing its Project Kuiper broadband service within the next two years. Naveen Kachroo, Business Development Director at Amazon, stated that even if selling services through partnering suppliers, Project Kuiper still needs approval. Vodacom Group has announced plans to provide low Earth orbit satellite communication services under Amazon.
Elon Musk's Starlink business has approximately 6000 in orbit satellites, while Amazon's Project Kuiper is still in the early stages of transitioning from a research and development business. Amazon's goal is to provide services to customers in the United States and Europe by 2025, and then expand to other parts of the world. (News24)
