Recently, a netizen posted a video claiming that a water leak occurred on the Royal Caribbean "Ocean Spectrum" cruise ship from Shanghai to Japan, causing hundreds of people on board to evacuate urgently, attracting online attention. On May 27th, the cruise ship responded to the poster news reporter by stating that the online video content was caused by a machine accidentally touching the fire sprinkler during the performance, not by water leakage.
In the video, water sprays out from the roof
The on-site video shows that water is sprayed out from the roof. According to reports from the public, Ms. Dai, a witness, described that two to three hundred spectators were watching the performance at the time. When the performance lasted for about 30 minutes, she felt like rain was leaking from her head, and then the water flow became more and more severe. The performers were urgently notified to evacuate. During the evacuation process, the leaking area was no longer dripping water, but was strongly sprayed with extremely high water pressure, as if it could potentially collapse the on-site facilities at any time.
On May 27th, the crew of the Royal Caribbean "Ocean Spectra" cruise ship stated that during the performance at the 270 degree landscape hall of the "Ocean Spectra Hall" that night, the robotic arm mistakenly triggered the fire sprinkler on the ceiling, causing the fire sprinkler to start spraying water, rather than leaking water from the hull. After the incident, the cruise ship staff immediately suspended the performance and evacuated the audience. No one was injured at the scene. At present, the venue has been opened normally, and other venues and activities on the cruise ship are proceeding normally.

It is understood that "Ocean Spectra" is the first cruise ship in the ultra large sub series built by Royal Caribbean International Cruises with a huge investment. It costs 1.25 billion US dollars and was a super international giant ship with a total tonnage of 170000 specially designed for the Chinese market in 2019, with a maximum passenger capacity of 5200 people.
At the end of April this year, the "Ocean Spectral" returned to its home port in Shanghai for operation after four years of absence. According to the official website, the Ocean Spectral Express currently departs from Shanghai and can book trips to areas such as Okinawa, Nagasaki, and Kagoshima in Japan. The route is diverse and prices range from 2500 to 7000 yuan per person.
