Robin Lee congratulated the award-winning team and individuals at the ceremony and emphasized that "you represent Baidu, you represent the most authentic Baidu, and you are the most authentic representative of Baidu."
Robin Lee pointed out in his speech that innovation is not easy. "Ten innovations, maybe nine, end in failure, but we will not give up. We will do the 11th and 12th... I believe that one day, we will prove to the world that technology is valuable."
Looking back over the past year, Robin Lee said that ERNIE Bot will be launched on March 16, 2023. After the continuous iteration of 3.5 and 4.0 versions, the basic capability of the big model has always been at the forefront of China's big model. Robin Lee said that since May 2023, when all product lines were reconstructed with the big model, "today, 10% of the big search traffic has been generated through the ERNIE Bot model; today, 2.5 million users use the AI capability of the library every day."
Robin Lee said that Baidu is constantly improving the efficiency and effect of the big model, reducing the cost and threshold of the big model, "so that more and more developers can develop a variety of agents and AI native applications based on ERNIE Bot, so that they can really benefit from it, so that their users and customers can really feel the results of AI."
On April 16, 2024, the Create 2024 Baidu AI Developer Conference was held for the first time in Shenzhen, Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Robin Lee stressed again in his speech at the main forum that the big model itself does not create value, and only AI applications developed based on the big model have market value.
Since the launch of ChatGPT by OpenAI triggered this AI wave, Baidu and Robin Lee intended to take the lead in China's AI big model industry and become the first big company to release AI big models. However, as last year, not only Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and other Internet giants successively stepped down from the big model, but also Baichuan Intelligence, the Dark Side of the Moon, Zhipu AI, Minimax and other AI big model start-ups have also invested heavily and launched their own big models. In this competitive environment, Baidu hopes that the industry will reduce investment in big models themselves and increase attention to AI applications based on big models.
Robin Lee introduced that the number of users of ERNIE Bot has exceeded 200 million, the average daily API usage has also exceeded 200 million, the number of service customers has reached 85000, and the number of AI native applications developed by Qianfan platform has exceeded 190000. Robin Lee disclosed that 27% of Baidu's code has been written by AI.
In addition, Robin Lee also announced, like other AI giants, that "in the future, as long as using natural language, everyone can be a developer, just as simple as taking short videos."
