On November 22, Mo Elshenawy, the new co president of Cruise, GM's autonomous vehicle division, told employees in an email that Cruise planned to re launch its robot taxi service after a safety accident, but the service site would be narrowed to a city, and the plan to launch Origin, an autonomous taxi made by GM, would be shelved.
Mo Elshenawy said, "Our strategy is to restart in one city, prove our performance there, and then expand." Cruise has previously operated in multiple cities in the United States, including San Francisco, Phoenix, Austin, Houston, and Miami.
Nearly a month ago, California regulators revoked Cruise's driverless license, so a previous accident led to a woman being towed nearly 20 feet by a Cruise autonomous vehicle. After the accident, Cruise decided to suspend business operations nationwide.
