According to insiders, General Motors became the last Detroit automaker to reach a new temporary labor agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW) on Monday, ending a strike that had lasted for more than six weeks.
The latest agreement comes after UAW reached a temporary agreement with Ford Motor and Chrysler parent company Stellantis last week, which is expected to end the union's historic strike, which involved over 45000 workers from multiple factories and dozens of parts distribution centers in the United States.
The person familiar with the matter stated that UAW plans to announce the temporary agreement on Monday.
The UAW extended its strike against General Motors to a factory in Tennessee last Saturday, which was surprising given the seemingly intense negotiations between the two sides in the past few days.
The temporary agreements of the three automobile companies mentioned above still need to be approved by workers represented by UAW in the approval vote held in the coming weeks.
The terms of General Motors' agreement cannot be determined at the moment, but it is expected to be largely consistent with the proposed contract agreements of two other local competitors.
