Toyota announced on November 1st that it will recall 1.85 million RAV4 sport utility vehicles in the United States due to the risk of catching fire due to improper installation of replacement batteries. The recall covers vehicles from 2013 to 2018 model years. Toyota claims that some replacement 12 volt batteries have smaller top dimensions, and if the clamping pliers are not properly tightened, the battery may move when the vehicle turns sharply, potentially causing a short circuit and increasing the risk of fire. Toyota stated that dealers will replace the battery clamp, battery tray, and positive cover, and will notify customers of the recall schedule by the end of December.
