Recently, Sibyman Biotechnology Group (hereinafter referred to as Sibyman) announced the signing of a joint development agreement with AstraZeneca for C-CAR031. C-CAR031 is an armored CAR-T therapy targeting hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using autologous anti phosphatidylinositol proteoglycan 3 (GPC3). C-CAR031 is based on AstraZeneca's new GPC3 targeted CAR-T (AZD5851), which is derived from AstraZeneca's transforming growth factor- β Receptor II (TGF) β RII) Explicit Negative Armor Discovery Platform Design, produced by Sibyman in China.
According to the terms of the agreement, Sibyman and AstraZeneca will jointly develop and commercialize C-CAR031 in China, and Sibyman will receive a down payment. Sibyman will also be eligible for milestone payments and global development royalties for AstraZeneca's independent development, production, and commercialization of AZD5851 outside of China.
At the 2023 annual meeting of the American Society for Research on Cancer, Sibyman announced a researcher initiated trial conducted in China, which preliminarily demonstrated the safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics (PK), and pharmacodynamics (PD) of C-CAR031. The data showed that C-CAR031 has good anti-tumor activity and robust PK/PD characteristics in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.
