On December 31, Tesla's official WeChat official account released the latest "winter" product, which attracted attention. One of the blankets, Cybersoft, sold for 1129 yuan and was made of 100% recycled polyester chenille. In addition, Tesla has also released a backpack called Cybertruck Elevate, priced at 2079 yuan; There is also a CyberStein beer glass, which costs 490 yuan; The CyberWhistle (matte black) is priced at 350 yuan.
The high priced peripherals have successfully attracted the attention of many Tesla car owners. Under the pursuit of numerous Chinese car companies, Tesla's sales this year and next are more worthy of consumer and investor attention.
Tesla still ranks first in pure electric vehicle sales
In the first three quarters, Tesla sold 1323868 vehicles. According to third-party statistical firm Counterpoint, Tesla's sales account for 14% of the total sales of new energy vehicles, an increase of 0.7% from the same period last year, and it still maintains the top position in global pure electric vehicle (BEV) sales.
But according to the data from the third quarter, BYD is rapidly catching up with Tesla. Tesla's sales in the third quarter were only 435059 units. BYD's pure electric vehicle sales reached 431603 units in the third quarter of 2023, only 3456 units lower than Tesla's.
According to Counterpoint research, global passenger pure electric vehicle sales increased by 29% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2023, thanks to the expanding markets in Europe and Southeast Asia. In the third quarter, sales of pure electric vehicles in China increased by 11%, and China maintained its position as the world's largest pure electric vehicle market. Chinese brands have successfully sold over 130000 pure electric vehicles overseas, a four fold increase in sales compared to the third quarter of 2022. Tesla, BYD, and Volkswagen are the best-selling pure electric vehicle groups. The agency predicts that BYD's pure electric vehicles are expected to surpass Tesla and become the world's number one in the fourth quarter of this year.
But based on past data, the fourth quarter was also the peak of Tesla's sales. This global leader in new energy vehicles will not easily give up its position as the world's number one.
According to Reuters, LSEG, a London Stock Exchange group, has predicted that Tesla will deliver approximately 473000 vehicles in the fourth quarter and 1.82 million vehicles for the entire year of 2023, a 37% increase from 2022, based on the views of 14 analysts. BYD's cumulative sales of pure electric vehicles from January to November were 1.3841 million units. Based on November sales and BYD's growth trend, it is estimated that BYD's pure electric sales in 2023 are expected to exceed 1.55 million units, which is less than Tesla's estimated annual sales of 1.82 million units.
Garrett Nelson, a senior analyst at the US investment bank CFRA Research, believes that the fourth quarter is usually Tesla's strongest delivery quarter of the year, and it is expected to continue this year.
Tesla's final electric vehicle delivery volume for this year is expected to be announced on January 2, 2024 local time in the United States. In recent quarters, they have announced their quarterly production and delivery on the second day after the end of a quarter. If it is the fourth quarter, they will also announce their annual production and delivery.
From the perspective of investors, Tesla still ranks first in the global market value of listed car companies.
China's automobile exports are the world's top, and new energy vehicles are developing rapidly
On December 28th, Kyodo News Agency reported, citing the latest data released by the Japan Association of Automobile Manufacturers (JAMA), that China's automobile exports are expected to surpass Japan in 2023, becoming the world's number one for the first time.
Kyodo News learned from the Japan Association of Automobile Manufacturers on the 28th that Japan's automobile exports from January to November this year were 3.99 million units. According to previous statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's automobile exports reached 4.412 million units from January to November, making it a foregone conclusion that China's annual export volume exceeded that of Japan.
The report points out that according to comparable data from various countries provided by the Japan Association of Automobile Manufacturers and other sources, this is the first time since 2016 that Japan has been pushed down from the top spot. Upon investigation, Japanese media believe that Chinese manufacturers, with the support of their own governments, have improved their technological capabilities and achieved export growth of low-priced and high-quality pure electric vehicles.
According to statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from January to November this year, the export volume of passenger cars in China was 3.72 million, a year-on-year increase of 65.1%; The export volume of commercial vehicles was 692000 units, a year-on-year increase of 29.8%. From the perspective of powertrain types, the export volume of traditional fuel vehicles in the first 11 months of this year was 3.32 million units, a year-on-year increase of 51.5%; The export volume of new energy vehicles was 1.091 million, a year-on-year increase of 83.5%.
