The first China International Supply Chain Promotion Expo (referred to as the "Chain Expo") was held in Beijing from November 28th to December 2nd. Tesla, with the theme of "Super Smart Manufacturing, Connecting the World", showcased the updated Model 3 and Model Y models, as well as charging and energy products from China's Smart Manufacturing, at the Chain Expo. According to statistics, the localization rate of components at Tesla's Shanghai super factory has exceeded 95%, and over 400 local first tier suppliers have been signed. Among them, more than 60 suppliers have entered Tesla's global supply chain system.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in October, Tesla's Shanghai super factory delivered over 47000 Model Y vehicles, ranking first on the sales list of pure electric vehicles; The Model 3, also produced by Shanghai's super factory, delivered approximately 25000 units in the same month, ranking first in luxury brand sedan sales.
"Tesla is a participant and beneficiary of global supply chain integration development. In the future, we will continue to leverage our own advantages to help establish a safe, stable, smooth, efficient, and mutually beneficial global supply chain system." Tesla Vice President Tao Lin said that Tesla hopes to explore successful experiences in other industries and sectors at the Chain Expo, Looking for more high-quality suppliers to work with Tesla to accelerate the world's transition towards sustainable energy.
According to Tesla officials, before the construction of Tesla's Shanghai super factory began, Tesla had already begun building a local supply chain architecture, establishing deep cooperation with a group of local supplier partners, and allowing the Shanghai super factory to achieve the industry miracle of starting and delivering that year, running at the speed of China and Tesla. At present, the automation rate of Shanghai's super factory has reached over 95%, and a car can be taken offline in less than 40 seconds.
The Shanghai Super Factory is Tesla's global export center. In 2022, Tesla's global total delivery exceeded 1.31 million vehicles, of which over 710000 came from the Shanghai super factory. In 2023, the actual annual production capacity of Shanghai Super Factory has increased from 750000 vehicles/year in the second quarter to over 950000 vehicles/year in the third quarter.
"Tesla's success in China is to a greater extent the success of the Chinese supply chain." Song Gang, Vice President of Manufacturing at Tesla, pointed out that Tesla has a "win-win" relationship with Chinese suppliers, which is a close cooperation, mutual support, and inseparable whole.
Tesla officials stated that the first Chain Expo was themed "Connecting the World, Creating the Future Together", which is also the common expectation of Tesla and its supply chain partners. Tesla is willing to work with suppliers to launch more competitive and innovative parts, and also hopes to take advantage of its own advantages to lead more excellent domestic suppliers to the international stage, win Xintiandi in the global market competition, let the world witness the hard power of "Chinese intelligent manufacturing", and accelerate the electrification transformation of the global automotive industry.
