On Friday (November 22) local time, the US technology giant Amazon announced on its official website that it would deepen its strategic cooperation with the US AI startup Anthropic.
The press release states that Anthropic has listed Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary training partner and will use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its largest base model; Amazon will invest an additional $4 billion in Anthropic.
Anthropic stated that Amazon's latest decision will bring its total investment in Anthropic to $8 billion, and Amazon will also retain its position as a minority shareholder. Amazon stated that the two companies will continue to work closely together to continuously enhance the hardware and software capabilities of Trainium.
The press release added that the next phase of cooperation will further enhance Amazon Bedrock's high-quality performance, security, and privacy for customers running Claude models. Bedrock is a fully hosted service that provides high-performance base models through a single API.
Amazon stated that the collaboration will enable AWS customers to use their own data to fine tune Anthropic models as early as possible, and "AWS customers will have a period of customization advantage for each model on the new Claude model
AWS CEO Matt Garman said, "The response from AWS customers developing Anthropic driven generative artificial intelligence applications in Bedrock has been very positive. We will continue to push the limits of what our customers can achieve with generative artificial intelligence technology
Garman added, "Anthropic's innovative pace and commitment to responsibly developing generative artificial intelligence have left a deep impression on us, and we look forward to deepening our cooperation
Caixin previously introduced that Anthropic was founded in 2021, with the founding team mostly coming from OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, including 10 former employees such as Dario Amodei, former research vice president of OpenAI, and Tom Brown, a core member of GPT-3.
Anthropic's large language model Claude is considered the biggest competitor to OpenAI ChatGPT. Currently, many traditional technology giants in the United States are entering this field to compete, and Microsoft is deeply tied to OpenAI in many aspects.
In March of this year, Amazon announced a $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic, the largest external investment in the retail giant's 30-year history. It is worth mentioning that Anthropic also received a $2 billion investment commitment from Google last year.
Last month, Anthropic announced the launch of its latest generation Claude model, which includes an "AI agent" with the ability to use computers. It is an important milestone for the company as it can operate computers like humans, including looking at screens, moving the mouse, clicking buttons, and entering text.
Analysis suggests that the sudden rise of "AI agents" will drive innovation and development in related industries, injecting new vitality into the economy.
