There are reports that Intel is currently working with investment banks to discuss various options, including splitting product design and manufacturing businesses, as well as suspending or canceling some projects to reduce costs, in order to improve the company's financial performance. This includes the CEO proposing an asset divestment plan to the board, such as the sale of Altera's programmable chip division.
Altera was founded in 1983 and has been involved in the fields of FGPA and CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Devices). In 2015, Intel spent $16.7 billion to acquire Altera. Previously, Intel had planned to promote Altera's public offering (IPO) when the timing was ripe in the next 2-3 years. Altera CEO Sandra Rivera stated that the company's programmable chips are aimed at the opportunity between ASIC and GPU chips. In 2022, Intel spun off its subsidiary Mobileye and went public.
