In an interview with the media, car owners also stated that all functions of Xiaopeng are given priority to G6 and G9, and P5 car owners feel "abandoned".
On November 3rd, Xiaopeng Motors responded to public letters from some Xiaopeng P5 users and proposed corresponding solutions.
Xiaopeng Automobile has stated that it will continue to conduct OTA on the Xiaopeng P5 model, gradually launching in 2024: smart scene, steering assistance, sentry mode optimization, map optimization, NetEase cloud music access, instrument display lyrics and other functions. At the same time, Xiaopeng P5 P version car owners who have already obtained XPILOT 3.5 intelligent driving assistance software will be offered a 20000 yuan intelligent driving voucher to obtain the cutting-edge intelligent driving assistance function of Xiaopeng.
At the recent Technology Day, Xiaopeng Motors announced that XNGP (Full Scene Intelligent Assisted Driving) will support pilot assisted driving in 25 to 50 cities by the end of the year. However, the Xiaopeng P5 model, which was the first to launch CNGP functionality, did not appear in XNGP's OTA plan for Kaicheng. In addition, on Technology Day, Xiaopeng Automobile also released the next generation Xiaopeng intelligent cockpit system XOS Tianji, but the system does not support P5 and G3 models. According to public information, the Xiaopeng P5 was officially launched and sold on September 15, 2021. The P-version model is equipped with two LiDARs. Xiaopeng claims that after OTA, the car can support urban NGP functions. As of now, CNGP has only opened partial roads in five cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Foshan.
A person familiar with the situation told reporters: "The XNGP system of G6, G9 and other models is' heavy perception, light map ', and high-precision maps will not become a constraint to expand the application range of the system. They can quickly expand the application of cities, but the heavy perception solution requires significant computing power support. However, P5 still needs to rely on high-precision maps due to the influence of chip computing power, which will affect the speed of the city opening
The Nvidia Xavier chip used by Xiaopeng P5 was released in 2020 with a computing power of 30 TOPS. The Nvidia Orin chips used in models such as the Xiaopeng G9 and G6 were released in 2022, with a total computing power of 508TOPS on these models.
Insiders of Xiaopeng Automobile told reporters that for users of the P5 P version model, Xiaopeng Automobile will continue to update the intelligent driving assistance system, but the system will still be based on high-precision map solutions. Xiaopeng Automobile's map team will ensure the freshness of the maps of CNGP cities that have been opened, and continue to improve the user experience of the system; At the same time, the application range of P5 CNGP will be further increased based on the expansion speed of high-precision maps.
However, the above-mentioned insiders stated that Xiaopeng's latest intelligent cockpit system XOS Tianji is based on horizontal screen design and development, making it difficult to simply transplant to vertical screen design models. In addition, the Qualcomm 820A chip used in G3 models is difficult to support XOS Tianji's applications in hardware; However, Xiaopeng Automobile will continue to update the intelligent cockpit system of P5 and G3 models, and continue to introduce features that users are more concerned about.
