On Tuesday local time, US tech giant Meta released its strongest open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model, Llama 3.1. Zuckerberg called it a "top-notch" AI model in the industry and stated that it can compete with similar products from competitors such as OpenAI and Google.
It is reported that the Llama 3.1 405B model contains 405 billion parameters, making it one of the largest parameter scale models in recent years. Llama 3.1 has undergone significant updates based on Llama 3. Llama 3.1 is mainly used to drive chatbots, which can engage in conversations in eight languages, write higher quality computer code, and solve more complex mathematical problems.
Meta executives stated that the model is primarily designed to support chatbots for Meta's internal and external developers, with a wide range of new features including improved reasoning abilities to help solve complex mathematical problems or instantly synthesize entire book texts. It also has generative AI functionality, which can generate images through text prompts. A feature called 'Imagine Yourself' allows users to upload their facial images and generate their depictions in different scenes and contexts.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Meta's chatbot has hundreds of millions of users and is expected to become the most widely used chatbot in the world by the end of the year. He also expects that other companies besides Meta will use Llama to train their own AI models.
