The land acquisition signing ceremony for the project was held in Shanghai this morning, marking the official launch of what the company called a "milestone project".
It is reported that on April 9th this year, the Tesla Energy Storage Super Factory project landed in Shanghai, and the factory will plan to produce Tesla's ultra large commercial energy storage batteries (Megapack). Previous reports have shown that Tesla's energy storage super factory project initially planned to produce up to 10000 commercial energy storage batteries per year, with a storage capacity of nearly 40GWh and a supply range radiating to the global market.
According to Tesla's official introduction earlier, Megapack is a powerful commercial energy storage battery that can store and supply energy, helping to stabilize the power grid and prevent power outages. Megapack can reliably and safely store energy for the power grid without the need to build natural gas peak shaving power plants and avoid power outages. Each unit can store over 3MWh of energy, sufficient to meet the hourly electricity demand of 3600 households.
Compared with similar systems on the market, this product reduces space occupation by 40%, has only one tenth of the number of components, and has an installation speed 10 times faster than products on the current market. It is also known as one of the largest capacity energy storage systems on the market.
At present, the Megapack system has been applied in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia to address the shortage of traditional fossil fuels.
