Cruise, a autonomous vehicle subsidiary of General Motors, has been plagued by bad news. After recently suspending all its driverless businesses in the United States, General Motors recently announced that it would stop producing the original driverless van.
Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt held a plenary meeting on Monday and told employees, "Since many things are changing, we have indeed made a decision with General Motors to suspend the production of Origin." Vogt added that the company has already produced hundreds of Origin cars, which will be sufficient in the short term.
Vogt pointed out that during the suspension of unmanned driving business, active discussions will be held with partners and regulatory agencies to take measures to rebuild public trust in the company.
A spokesperson for General Motors stated:; Quot; We are currently completing the production of a small number of Origin models and plan to temporarily suspend production thereafter. However, we believe that autonomous cars will change the way people travel around the world, and Origin is an important component of autonomous travel& Amp; Quot;
Cruise Origin was jointly developed by General Motors, Cruise, and Honda. In September, Vogt also told investors that the company still had "a few days" before mass production of Origin.
California regulators revoked Cruise's operating license for driverless cars last month, saying autonomous vehicle pose a risk to the public.
The California Motor Vehicle Administration (DMV) previously stated that it had ordered the immediate cessation of Cruise's local testing and deployment permits, and believed that Cruise unmanned vehicles were not safe enough to operate on the road.
It should be said that DMV's approach is extremely reasonable. In early October, a traffic accident related to Cruise autonomous vehicles occurred in San Francisco, but Cruise later concealed important information about the accident, and the company was heavily criticized by regulatory agencies.
Cruise suspended all of its unmanned driving operations in the United States at the end of October after California regulatory authorities revoked its operating license.
In addition, according to media reports on Monday, Cruise's software "has problems identifying children", putting them at risk.
Cruise has been promoting its Origin for many years and petitioned US regulatory agencies in February 2022 to allow the deployment of up to 2500 autonomous van Origin vehicles annually.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Commission (NHTSA) stated in July that it is expected to make a decision on the petition within "a few weeks". But as NHTSA launched a safety defect investigation into nearly 600 autonomous vehicles in Cruise, the deployment of Origin fell into silence.
