The incident of McDonald's celebrity burger being involved in E. coli infection is still fermenting. Regarding the source of Escherichia coli, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are currently collaborating with various states and regions in the United States to investigate.
Regarding the latest progress of the investigation, on October 25th, an FDA spokesperson replied to a reporter from the Daily Economic News, saying:
The FDA is using all available means to confirm whether onions are the source of this outbreak. These measures include collaborating with federal and state partners as well as relevant companies to collect and evaluate relevant records and distribution information, which will be part of the retrospective investigation. Meanwhile, the FDA and state partners are also collecting onion samples for analysis.
During the investigation, Taylor Farm, the supplier of sliced onions to the affected McDonald's stores, has initiated a voluntary recall. The FDA can confirm that yellow onions have been sold to other food service customers. The customer who received this batch of onions has been directly notified of this recall event.
At present, the FDA is working closely with the companies involved and will continue to provide the latest information, including any other recalls or notifications that may be necessary, which is crucial for the recipients of the onions involved.
