Has the word "Jianghuai Automobile" become history?

On the morning of December 4th, NIO Automotive Technology (Anhui) Co., Ltd. was prominently listed in the "Vehicle Production Enterprise Credit Information Management System" of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The information shows that the legal representative of the company is Qin Lihong, with a registered address at Building F, Hengchuang Intelligent Technology Park, No. 3963 Susong Road, Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, Anhui Province. The production address is No. 299 Baita Road, Hefei Economic and Technological Development Zone, Anhui Province.
It is understood that the credit information management system for vehicle production enterprises on the platform of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is a credit database for automobile production enterprises established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in accordance with the requirements of the State Council to deepen the reform of the administrative approval system and accelerate the establishment of an enterprise credit information system.
Being shortlisted for this system indicates that the car company will have independent vehicle manufacturing qualifications. Obtaining production qualifications is not an easy task

In fact, in the industry's view, it is not easy for a new energy vehicle company to obtain production qualifications.
A source from a car manufacturer told reporters that for example, if a car company wants to build a factory in a certain location, it must first analyze the utilization rate of local new energy vehicle production capacity. If the utilization rate of production capacity is low, it will be difficult for the new car company to obtain approval. Secondly, it is necessary to comprehensively consider various factors such as the research and development capacity, production capacity, industrial scale, and expected benefits of new car companies.
Taking Xiaomi, which recently announced the production of cars, as an example, its first new energy vehicle model SU7 has not obtained the qualification for car manufacturing. The declared enterprise name for this model is "Beijing Automotive Group Off road Vehicle Co., Ltd.", which is actually manufactured by this company under the Beijing Automotive Group.
According to business data, NIO Automotive Technology (Anhui) Co., Ltd. was established in August 2020 with a registered capital of 6 billion RMB. The legal representative and chairman are Qin Lihong, and its business scope includes research, development, testing, and related technical support services in the field of electronic technology, new products and components in the automotive industry, enterprise management consulting, and vehicle affairs agency. NIO Holdings Co., Ltd. holds a wholly-owned stake.
According to the change records, the registered capital of the company increased from 3 billion RMB to 6 billion RMB in May this year, an increase of 100%. According to intellectual property information, the company has applied for more than 1800 patents, of which over 1100 have been authorized, covering vehicle assembly, vehicle die-casting, vehicle control, and battery swapping.
The rumor of NIO independently making cars has a long history. Previously, on October 20th, Jianghuai Automobile announced that it plans to transfer some assets through public listing, with a proposed listing price of up to 4.498 billion yuan.
The factories involved in the transfer are NIO F1 factory and NIO F2 factory. The F1 factory is mainly responsible for the production of ES8, ES6, EC6, ET7, ES7 and other vehicle models, with a production capacity of 300000 vehicles per year; The F2 factory is mainly responsible for the production of ET5 models.
As early as 2016, NIO signed a contract with Jianghuai Automobile to produce all of its models. The initial planned production capacity was 50000 vehicles per year, which was later increased to 100000 vehicles per year. The tail of NIO's models must be labeled with the "Jianghuai Automobile" logo.
At that time, NIO also responded by stating that the company had already understood the relevant information of its partners and confirmed that this action would not affect the company's future production and operation activities. The company will communicate relevant matters at an appropriate time and will not comment on this matter until then.
Is the high OEM cost in the past tense?

In the early days of NIO's establishment, Li Bin, the founder and chairman of NIO, talked about his views on the OEM model. Li Bin believes that as an innovative company, NIO has limited funds and resources, and it is very important to make reasonable choices. Secondly, Jianghuai has mature production and manufacturing experience, and is willing to follow NIO's processes and process standards, which is a win-win situation.
However, it cannot be ignored that the cost of OEM is not low for new energy vehicle companies. According to NIO's financial report, from 2018 to 2022, it paid approximately 223 million, 441 million, 532 million, 715 million, and 1.127 billion yuan in contract manufacturing fees to Jianghuai Automobile, respectively. The high cost and low voice over the production process are important reasons that drive new forces in the automotive industry to break away from contract manufacturing.
According to the latest official data, from January to November 2023, NIO delivered a total of 142000 new cars, a year-on-year increase of 33.1%; As of the end of November 2023, NIO has delivered a total of 431600 new vehicles. As NIO's sales scale continues to expand, its investment in OEM costs is also constantly rising.
Previously, several new forces had obtained production qualifications through acquisitions, such as Ideal Automobile obtaining production qualifications for pure electric passenger vehicles (including extended range) through the acquisition of Beijing Hyundai Shunyi factory, and Zero Run Automobile acquiring Fujian Xinfuda Automobile to obtain production qualifications. After obtaining the qualification for car manufacturing, new forces in car manufacturing have stronger control over production costs.
