On July 30th Beijing time, at the 51st SIGGRAPH graphic conference held in Denver, USA, Nvidia founder and CEO Renxun Huang and Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg had a "fireplace talk" and exchanged jackets.
In the first half of the conversation, Huang Renxun and Zuckerberg had a conversation about open source technology, customization of generative AI, and other related topics. During the conversation, Huang Renxun highly praised Meta's exploration in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as its progress in computer vision, language modeling, and real-time translation. He stated that Meta's Llama 2.1 open-source model was the biggest event in the AI industry last year, and suddenly large and small enterprises began to build their own AI. In response, Zuckerberg stated that the biggest incident should be Nvidia's H100.
The two also emphasized the importance of open source in promoting the development of AI, believing that open platforms are particularly crucial for innovation. Zuckerberg believes that in the software world, there will always be a closed and an open system. Huang Renxun also mentioned Nvidia's service updates in AI open source software. Regarding the development of future models, Zuckerberg said, "I don't think there will be just one AI model. In the past, one of the factors driving all improvements was that each type of content had a different model. Now, as models become larger and more universal, this situation is constantly improving. Sometimes I dream that one day the entire Facebook or Instagram platform will be like a single AI model, integrating all these different content types and systems together
In the second half of the conversation, the two discussed AR/VR computing platforms and the wave of robots. Zuckerberg is optimistic about combining AI with the real world through glasses. When we consider the next computing platform, we will break it down into mixed reality (MR), head mounted devices, and smart glasses, and the glasses people wear today will ultimately be upgraded to smart glasses
Huang Renxun emphasized how interaction with AI can become smoother, rather than just text-based interaction. Today's AI is a bit like a back and forth pattern, you say one sentence, it responds to you. In the future, AI will consider multiple options, generate an option tree, and simulate the results to make it more powerful, "said Huang Renxun.
At the end of the conversation, the two also exchanged jackets. Zuckerberg gave Huang Renxun a black fur jacket with a huge hat; Huang Renxun also gave Zuckerberg his iconic leather jacket, jokingly saying that this jacket was specially prepared by his wife for SIGGRAPH conference and he only wore it for two hours.
