Red Star Capital Bureau reported on February 18th that recently, overseas Tesla (TSLA. US) Cybertruck owners posted that orange rust spots appeared on the Cybertruck body after being exposed to rain. Regarding this, Cybertruck's official account forwarded to Tesla's Director of Engineering& Responding to the explanation from Wes Morrill, Chief Engineer of Cybertruck.
Wes Morrill stated that stainless steel has activity, and the free iron on it will rust. This is just surface contamination and can be easily removed. His proposed solution is to use cleaning agents to remove dirt: using Bar Keeper's Friend works very well; Citrisurf77 can also loosen sediment by simply wiping it off; If there is stubborn dirt, you can use blue scratch resistant Scotch Brite, which will not leave any marks on the metal. (Note: The above English terms are all American cleaning agent brands)
A Cybertruck owner previously posted on the forum stating that the sales consultant had reminded the Cybertruck to have orange rust marks after rainy days and that the vehicle needs to be polished. In a rainy environment, Cybertruck stayed outdoors for 2 days before appearing orange rust spots. Even after cleaning with cleaning agents, orange rust spots can still be seen.
Cybertruck owners have also encountered the problem of their beloved car getting rusty in the rain, stating that it only took 11 days from picking up the car on February 1st to discovering rust, and they have only driven 381 miles, with most of the time parked in front of their own homes. He hopes to be processed within the warranty period and has made an appointment for warranty service. But Tesla's after-sales staff stated that they have repair procedures/guidelines, but do not bring repair tools and have not conducted such repairs before. The final staff recorded the corrosion situation and stated that they will call for repair after the tools are in place next month.
Cybertruck is an electric pickup truck under Tesla, and its first batch of deliveries began on December 1, 2023 at a super factory in Texas, USA. The starting price without discounts is $60990 (equivalent to RMB 435000), $79990 (equivalent to RMB 571000), and $99900 (equivalent to RMB 714000).
The official name of Cybertruck in China is Cyber Off road Touring Vehicle, and the time of its entry into China is still uncertain. On January 28th, Cybertruck made its debut in eight cities: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Xi'an, and Chongqing.
Tesla officials have informed Red Star Capital that the Cybertruck's body exoskeleton is made of aerospace grade ultra hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel, and bullets cannot penetrate it. Cybertruck does not have car paint, and its hard exoskeleton can reduce surface dents, damage, and corrosion caused by long-term use, maintaining the same gloss as a new car.
It is understood that the thickness of the stainless steel body skin of Cybertruck reaches 3 millimeters, while the thickness of ordinary car galvanized steel plate is only 0.6-0.7 millimeters.
