San Francisco, January 9th (Xinhua) -- Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun admitted at a company meeting on January 9th that the company had made mistakes regarding the recent accident related to the Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.
Calhoun said that Boeing will handle each step in a completely transparent manner, working with the National Transportation Safety Commission of the United States, which is investigating the accident, to identify the cause of the accident, and stated that Boeing "has long-term cooperation experience with the organization.". He also said that the Federal Aviation Administration is supervising inspections to ensure the safety of the next takeoff aircraft and that such accidents will not occur again.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated in a statement on the 9th that Boeing is revising its previously provided inspection instructions based on feedback received. "After receiving Boeing's revised version explanation, the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct a thorough review."
Alaska Airlines announced on the 8th that preliminary reports from its technical personnel showed some loose parts visible on some Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft. United Airlines also stated on the same day that during the emergency inspection required by the Federal Aviation Administration, some issues were found on its Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, such as the need for further tightening of some bolts, but the specific quantity of these bolts was not disclosed.
A Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by Alaska Airlines flew from Portland, Oregon to Ontario, California on the 5th. Shortly after takeoff, the passenger plane experienced an accident in the air and immediately made an emergency landing, causing no casualties. According to US media reports, photos taken by passengers on board show a damaged area on the side of the cabin next to the passenger's seat. After the accident, multiple regulatory agencies and airlines around the world announced the grounding of this type of aircraft.
