On November 9th, Red Star Capital Bureau reported that He Xiaopeng, Chairman of Xiaopeng Motors (09868. HK/XPEV. US), posted on Weibo that he had discussed the technical route with Yu Chengdong (Huawei Executive Director, CEO of Terminal BG, and Chairman of Automotive Intelligent Solutions BU) this morning, but did not provide a conclusion. He only expressed gratitude for Yu Chengdong's suggestions and generosity, and lamented that "sometimes misunderstandings make it easier to become good friends".

He stated that Xiaopeng Automobile will expand AEB functions through OTA, and will work together to lead intelligent driving technology innovation and win a new era of intelligent electric vehicles.
At this point, the AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) dispute that has lasted for nearly 10 days seems to have come to an end.
Multiple car company executives participate in the AEB dispute

On November 1st, He Xiaopeng said in an interview with the media, "My friend told me about AEB, and I think 99% of it is fake. It's just fake, and the publicity is not officially released by the company. It's all from small videos. Our people also asked, and its AEB can't be driven at all. There are too many cases of accidental braking on the road
On the evening of November 3rd, Yu Chengdong fired a shot on his friend's circle: "Even what AEB is, there are even car company leaders who haven't understood it yet." "Some car companies are busy doing intelligent driving all day, and the AEB active safety test results are very poor. I was very surprised to find out that they didn't even do the basic functions of AEB. Either they were fooled by their subordinates, or they lack the most basic understanding of the development of the automotive industry
On the evening of November 4th, He Xiaopeng said on his Moments again, "I recently evaluated an industry disorder, but the industry was not in a hurry, while non industry ones were in a hurry. I don't know why he was in a hurry
Several car company executives also ended up "rubbing off the heat".
Li Xiang, CEO of Ideal Motors (02015. HK/LI. US), commented on this matter on November 4th: "Do not argue with Huawei
Following closely, Zhao Changjiang, General Manager of Tengshi Sales Division, gave a brief introduction to AEB on Weibo and demonstrated the AEB capabilities of Tengshi N7.
Zhang Yong, CEO of Nezha Motors, also posted his AEB scores on Weibo. He acknowledged in the comment that the complexity of AEB scenarios is too high, and the functional performance may vary across various scenarios, such as weather, rainfall, sunlight, speed, and the size of obstacles. Well done, the difficulty is very high. The AEB of Nezha Motors still needs polishing.
On November 6th, both Xiaopeng Automobile and AITO Wenjie Automobile officially launched the "Science Popularization" AEB, which was full of gunpowder. Xiaopeng Automobile also released the AEB transcript of Xiaopeng P7 and stated that Xiaopeng's self-developed AEB scored close to full in formal tests.
What exactly is AEB?

AEB is not a new thing. More than 60 years ago, General Motors Cadillac models used millimeter wave radar to achieve collision avoidance functions.
According to public information, the AEB system is an electronic system that assists in braking. It detects the distance from the vehicle or obstacle in front through radar, and analyzes it through an electronic control unit. Based on different distances and speeds, it determines whether there is a risk of collision, alerts the driver, and automatically brakes or slows down the vehicle to the maximum extent possible, thereby reducing the probability of collision with the vehicle or pedestrian in front and avoiding accidents.
An automotive engineer told Red Star Capital that AEB is not necessarily safer with higher and more sensitive braking speeds, but rather covers more emergency braking scenarios while avoiding false braking as much as possible. Technically, AEB is actually more difficult than NOA (Navigation Assisted Driving).
Zhu Xishan, a renowned domestic automotive safety expert and professor at the School of Automotive Engineering at Tongji University, stated that the dispute between He Xiaopeng and Yu Chengdong was due to a certain degree of confusion over the boundary between intelligent driving and traditional AEB.
In his view, AEB and intelligent driving are not the same thing. Most companies' intelligent driving and AEB are two teams, and many even adopt solutions from suppliers such as Bosch. If divided into five levels of intelligent driving, AEB is in the L0 level, and L1-L5 is intelligent driving because AEB does not continuously control the vehicle.
Because AEB does not belong to the category of autonomous driving, drivers cannot deviate from driving, and the development of AEB has always followed the principle of "better leakage than error". When developing AEB, it is generally required that there must be less than one false brake per 10000 hours. If calculated based on an average speed of 50 kilometers per hour, it is less than one false brake per 500000 kilometers. However, there is no such strict regulation for missed inspections
Professor Zhu Xichan stated that the good performance of AEB relies on the ability and experience of criterion algorithms, while intelligent driving relies on software capabilities and data closed-loop capabilities. Whether it's NOA or NGP, currently intelligent driving mainly relies on AI algorithms, but AEB uses rule-based algorithms. "He also mentioned that in addition to differences in algorithms, the two also have different braking methods. AEB brakes more fiercely and decelerates quickly.
