On July 22, 2024, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.
Bloomberg reporter: US National Security Advisor Sullivan said that the United States is preparing to impose new sanctions on Chinese entities that support Russia's war against Ukraine, implying that banks may be targeted. What is China's comment on this, especially on the role of Chinese banks in the Russia-Ukraine conflict?
Mao Ning: Regarding the Ukrainian crisis, China has always maintained an objective and impartial stance. China is not the creator or party to the crisis, but it has been actively promoting peace talks and striving to push for a political solution to the crisis. The United States should do something practical to politically resolve the crisis, rather than shifting responsibility to China and stirring up relations between China and other countries.
What I want to emphasize is that both China and Russia are independent and major powers, and normal cooperation between China and Russia is not targeted at any third party, nor is it subject to external interference and coercion. We firmly oppose any illegal unilateral sanctions and 'long arm jurisdiction', and will take all necessary measures to safeguard our legitimate rights and interests.
