At 1am Beijing time on June 11th, the highly anticipated 35th Apple WWDC Conference (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) was held as scheduled.
Apple showcased its latest progress in the field of artificial intelligence at the conference and announced a series of notable updates. The conference focused on the integration of OpenAI models, showcasing multiple AI features on Apple devices, and plans to support more AI models in the future. In addition, Apple has emphasized its commitment to privacy. After the conference, Tesla CEO Musk spoke up, "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, then my company will ban the use of Apple devices."

Apple announced its latest AI strategy at the conference on Monday, integrating its new "Apple Intelligence" technology into a series of applications, including Siri voice assistant, and introducing OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT into its devices. The following is a summary of the key points of the keynote speech on the first day of the WWDC conference by Securities Times reporters:
Regarding artificial intelligence and software updates: Apple will collaborate with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Apple products. Launch the "Apple Intelligence" suite, providing priority push notifications, text summarization, and image generation functions. At the same time, Apple released macOS15, adding an "iPhone mirroring" feature that allows iPhone operation through Mac. And introduce the concept of "private cloud computing", using dedicated servers on Apple chips for cloud computing to enhance data privacy and security.
Regarding devices and operating systems: Apple has released VisionOS2, the operating system for VisionPro, which uses machine learning to create space and 3D images. The calculator application will debut on the iPad for the first time. The VisionPro headset will also be launched in China, Japan, and Singapore on June 28th.
Regarding communication and wearable devices: Apple has launched satellite SMS functionality for iMessage and SMS applications. Simultaneously release updates to systems such as iOS18, iPadOS18, and WatchOS11.
Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federick stated at the conference that "Apple Intelligence" will help summarize text, create raw images, and retrieve the most relevant data when users need it. He introduced that chatbots will receive support through Apple's Siri voice assistant. For example, if a customer needs a menu idea for cooking a meal, Siri can determine if ChatGPT can provide assistance. Then, the user will receive Siri's prompt asking for permission - "Do you want me to use ChatGPT to do this?" - and then go to ChatGPT.
According to Craig Federick, users can also upload photos to ChatGPT for modification suggestions. Similarly, Siri will request permission before uploading photos. He said that writing tools will also be able to utilize chatbots. These services will be provided for free without the need for an account. Regarding the collaboration with OpenAI, Craig Federidge stated that these features will be made available to users through beta testing later this year, and some features will be launched in 2025. Craig Federick described it as "an AI built for the rest of us.".
OpenAI CEO Sam Ultraman attended Monday's event, but he did not speak on stage. After the conference, he wrote on social media website X that he was "very happy" to collaborate with Apple.
Ensuring customer data security is another theme of this conference. Craig Federick stated that a system called PrivateCloudCompute will help ensure the security of user information when it is sent to data centers.
During the conference, Apple also released VisionOS2, the latest version of the software for VisionPro headphones. This operating system allows users to convert regular photos into 3D images and update the interface through gestures. Apple plans to launch VisionPro internationally, which will start pre ordering in China, Japan, and Singapore on June 14th and will be released in these regions on June 28th. The starting price of the Chinese version of Apple VisionPro is 29999 RMB. Next are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom. These countries will start pre ordering on June 28th and selling on July 12th.
In order to meet long-standing customer demands, Apple has finally introduced its calculator application to the iPad - a move that has won applause from the crowd. The software will utilize ApplePencil to allow users to solve equations by handwriting. In addition, the new Mac software called Sequoia will make it easier for users to mirror iPhones on their computers.
Musk speaks: Apple is not smart enough

Shortly after the Apple conference, Tesla CEO Elon Musk posted several tweets on his social media platform, stating that if OpenAI's artificial intelligence software is integrated into the operating system, he will ban the company from using Apple devices and citing security risks in this collaboration.
According to Musk on his social media, "Apple is not smart enough to create its own artificial intelligence, but it can ensure that OpenAI protects your security and privacy, which is obviously absurd! Apple doesn't know what will happen if data is handed over to OpenAI, they sell their users." Musk also posted a teaser about how Apple's artificial intelligence works, teasing Apple's behavior of handing over its own data to OpenAI.

On Musk's social media, someone commented and added, "Do you remember American actress Scarlett Johnson telling OpenAI not to use her voice, but they still cloned it and used it? Now imagine what they can do with your phone data even if you don't allow them to use it." Musk expressed that this is exactly what he is worried about.
And investors' reactions to the various new features showcased by Apple were also lukewarm. As of the close, Apple's stock price fell nearly 2%, closing at $193.120.
Forrester analyst Dipanjan Chatterjee said, "Currently, there is no factor that can drive the brand's incremental development trajectory beyond its expectations. Apple Intelligence does indeed please users in small but meaningful ways, putting Apple on par with its peers but not far ahead."
Analysts also suggest that Apple is still overly reliant on iPhone sales, and any boost from new artificial intelligence features is unlikely to be achieved in the short term. Apple CEO Tim Cook is now facing pressure to prove that this manufacturer can once again lead. In the past six quarters, Apple has experienced a decline in sales in five quarters.
