Entering the era of stock, it is not easy for any Internet platform to achieve double the growth of users. On October 10, it was reported that Chen Rui, CEO of B station, proposed at a mid-year content meeting that the mobile DAU(daily active users) of the main station should be doubled on the existing basis. For the plan, Chen Rui did not give a clear implementation time. According to the financial report of the second quarter of 2023, the DAU of Station B was 96.5 million, an increase of 15% year-on-year and 3% quarter-on-quarter. Some media quoted the views of people close to B station, for the standard iQiyi, Kuaishou and other domestic long and short video platforms, the user scale of B station should have a higher user scale. Taking Kuaishou as a reference object, DAU 376 million in the second quarter, B station still has a large room for growth, but whether it can be so different to the standard industry.

The next day after Didi's growth plan was exposed, the relevant plans for Station B were also made public. On October 10, it was reported that at an internal meeting of B Station in the middle of the year, Chen Rui pointed out that "B station still has user growth potential" and "must do a good job in user growth", and proposed the goal of doubling the DAU of the main station mobile terminal on the existing basis. As of the Beijing Business Daily reporter, the relevant person of the B station did not respond to this.
From the perspective of the changing trend alone, the year-on-year growth of DAU in each quarter of Station B is the norm. Only in the eight quarters from 2022 to the present, in the first quarter and second quarter of 2022, DAUs of Station B were 79.4 million and 83.5 million, respectively, with corresponding year-on-year increases of 32% and 33%.
In the second half of 2022, the DAU of Station B crossed the 90 million mark, and the DAU of the third and fourth quarters were 90.3 million and 92.8 million, respectively, with a year-on-year increase of 25% and 29%. In 2023, the B site continued to move closer to the 100 million DAUs, increasing 18% year-on-year to 93.7 million in the first quarter and 15% year-on-year to 96.5 million in the second quarter.
For content-oriented Internet platforms, DAU and membership are the main metrics for measuring client performance. A person close to Station B told the media that the management of Station B will benchmark other content platforms when judging the upper limit of its user size, believing that Station B with more comprehensive content should have a much higher user scale than iQiyi, Youku, Tencent and other long video platforms; The domestic user scale of short video platforms Tiktok and Kuaishou is close to the ceiling, and Station B is far from reaching this state.
Since Tiktok is not listed, there is no official user data, and iQiyi generally discloses quarterly member size data. If all are based on financial data, the revenue of Station B in the second quarter of 2023 will be 5.3 billion yuan, and DAU will be 96.5 million; Kuaishou had revenue of 27.7 billion yuan and DAU of 376 million. For example, based on the data of QuestMobile, a third-party institution, the DAU of iQiyi, Tencent Video and Youku in June 2023 was in the range of 3.8 million to 7.9 million, while the DAU of Douyin and Kuaishou were 351 million and 604 million respectively (including the top speed version). Site B had 68.8 million DAUs that month.
For the standard Douyin, Kuaishou, both long and short video and PUGC (professional user generated video) as the characteristics of the B station, to achieve double the user size has data support. However, Wang Chao, founder of the Wenyuan Think Tank, told the Beijing Business Daily reporter, "There are many works and activities in the B station, but there is still a distance from the national application." If any application can not break 300 million daily, it may prove that the ceiling of the product model is relatively low." In his view, at present, there is no target platform for B station in China.
From another perspective, the proposed user growth plan shows the confidence of Station B to a certain extent. In the second quarter of 2023, the adjusted net loss of Station B narrowed by 51% year-on-year, and it is trying new business models such as live broadcasting.
